Pope's Message

"I hope mess. I mess in the diocese, want you to go outside, I want the church out into the street. Young people have to leave, they have to be enforced, young people have to go out and fight for values, to fight for these values. I ask you, do mess, but help organize it. We make a mess of hope, born of having met Jesus."

In São Paulo, Brasil, there is a priest called Roberto Lettieri, he help the poor in the center of the city, and when there is a game he invite one of them (who should probably support the same team) to watch the game with him.

In the video below there is a short interview with the Brazilian Tv saying more about it. Roberto Lettieri sais that “it is a passer joy, but it is a joy that in the face of so much pain is a deep joy.” and the poor also say that he would like to share this joy with all his friends.

A message to young Catholics from around the world:

“What do I hope for from World Youth Day? I hope for a mess … that the Church takes to the streets. That we defend ourselves from comfort, that we defend ourselves from clericalism”

“We do not let aged people speak, and as for young people – it is the same. They do not have the experience and the dignity of work … Young people must be able to go out and fight for their values”

The idea of Copa Católica began after some talks after watching a game from the famous Clericus Cup, a soccer tournament to priests and seminarians worldwide. This tournament is played on the field of the Oratory of San Pedro, near the impressive dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. Following the motto: “Pope Francis is my captain.”

The Vatican is very interested in the Clericus Cup: in addition to its global influence, the institution thinks that the values of excellence, discipline, effort and teamwork that are associated with football, are very necessary for life in modern society.

So we expect it to be a success.
